The green highlighted region of the brain is known as Broca's area, an area in the frontal lobe concerned with speech production, which I have recently discovered. I have worked with a patient called "tan", he is quite peculiar he is able to understand spoken languages although he cannot seem to speak or write it himself. All his motor skills were intact, surprisingly the only articulated sound he mad was the word "tan" from which he had gotten his name. When I autopsied Tan's brain, I found a legion in his frontal cortex in the left hemisphere. I later studied 8 other patients with similar impairments, and lesions in their left frontal hemisphere. From which I concluded "we speak with the left hemisphere". Broca's area is the "language centre of the brain.
